Shimano Fishing Rod & It's History

The Shimano Company has been producing fishing gear for years and they lead the way in many new areas of fishing
tackle. I can remember when I was a kid getting fishing gear for Christmas. My very first fishing rod was a Shimano
fishing rod and I still have it to this day.
The company was founded in the 1920’s by a man named Shozaburo Shimano. He didn’t begin his career in fishing
but in fact, in precision engineering. As I mentioned before, they are now one of the leaders of the entire fishing
industry.
The fishing rods themselves have come a long way from wood to high tech aluminum and graphite shafts. They are
light, easy to transport, and yet solid enough to take on the biggest of fish. Shimano makes rods for all styles of
fishing
Recently Shimano has come out with “oval” technology in their Aero Cast spinning rods. The rod is able to twist
with pressures and gives a new feeling and action in the rod. This can help tremendously since casting and reeling
in a fish place 2 different stresses on the fishing rod. This is just a small example of their incredible
innovation.

Because Shimano is a well renowned brand, you would expect their equipment to be expensive and something only
the sponsored pro fishermen would use. But you can buy some of the top gear with out spending hundreds of dollars.
I think that is what also makes this brand so special. I can go to a local fishing outlet and pick up a
Shimano fishing rod and reel combo set for under $150, and I know it will last me the better part of
10 years.
However, they do have more expensive and specialized equipment but it really isn’t needed for the weekend
fishermen. That is, unless you have to have the best. There have been countless fights with my wife about buying
fishing gear. But I let her know that if she can go on a shopping spree for boots, I can buy something that will
literally put food on the table.
I really don’t have anything negative to say about the Shimano products I’ve owned. My only disappointments have
been from my inability to select the proper rod for the proper outing. But even so, things have turned out just
fine.
The next time you’re in the market for a rod, try a Shimano fishing rod. I bet you will fall in love with them
just as I have. Happy Fishin’
